is the calibration to be set at 440 HZ or 441 HZ for standard tuning...i'm spacing out. my son was playing with it and i just want to be sure....

But just so you know, the way things are supposed to really work is you tune to 440 originally and when you come back to your guitar at another playing session, you check the tuning and if the needle is showing you're flat in general(usually the case), like most of the strings. Then you adjust the calibration so that most of the strings pin the green middle and then you just slightly tune the one or two that are off.

When everything has really drifted lower or higher, then you redo everything again to 440.

Weather and temperature are always affecting tuning and you could chase it forever, so make life easy for yourself this way.

I recently read an article discussing 442 with regards to pitch of concert instruments.

But yes, 440 is the standard.

these few cents. of tuning difference wont affect ear training will it?? ive been on 441...i guess forever...i thought i was told 441, and 442 would give u concert pitch..like your high A would be in tune on 442 your mid A might be a little off, so i think i was told 441 will give u your standard middle range A ... maybe i was just a little stoned and got my zeros ones and twos confused

so if i'm jamming with a live jerry show from 78, maybe is should tune to 442?

I use a tuner after changing strings (allowing them to "Seat"/ adjust, then re-tune ... Basic stuff). Then, when I pull something up on the Ipod / Computer to Jam with, I always have to fine tune... to a degree. IMO when one hears a live recording I would guess there is a slight pitch change when going from SBD > MASTER Tape > to who knows what...

As we all have heard before in the 60's to mid 70's shows (Give or take a few years) they always tuned to each other. That in and of itself could have changed the "Standard" 440 mhz frequency (the technology at the time .... Anyone remember or still use Stobe tuners?) a few cents.

I find the biggest changes in tuning, albeit slight, is between "eras" than shows within eras.....

Geeze, that is pretty deep for a tuning post...
