I know it's off topic of the grateful dead but I respect the opinions of the people on this board more than any other group so I thought it'd ask here.

Me and a friend are planning on playing an acoustic Beatles album at a place downtown and I was just wondering which one you'd most like to go see. I learned Abbey Road, Sgt Peppers and Rubber Soul in a massive cram session this week, my personal favorite is abbey road but my friends leaning towards rubber soul

rubber soul is pretty sweet, along with the white album disc one

Out of those I think Rubber Soul would be the best for an acoustic show, then Abbey then Sgt Pepper. If you do go with Rubber Soul are you going to do the US release or the UK release?

Easy...Revolver is their masterpiece IMO

I like Rubber Soul, but Abbey Road has always been a favorite of mine.

when you get right down to it, Revolver has their best songs, followed by the White Album. Revolver may be a bit difficult to do an acoustic show, and it can be heavy material, so if you're looking for a good time, good songs, do the White Album. Personally, Revolver is my favorite though, so much depth, originality, and just plain awesomeness.

Revolver . . . that would get most big Beatles fans really up to see. Great songs. And its the album that really broke Harrison as a songwriter.

I agree with your original idea: Abbey Road. The Rubber Soul songs would tranlate well to acoustic guitar, but Abbey Road would be a little more interesting. I guess it really depends on your audience. I do a version of Here Comes the Sun on my classical guitar. If I capo it on the 7th fret, I can play along with the record. Throw in a mandolin and it's really good. On the other hand, I can't really imagine Come Together on an acoutic, but it might work.

So, why are you restricting your set to one album? Why not mix songs from various albums?

Well, my opinion is that it all depends on how long your set is! If you do only one Beatles' album, you oughtta be done in about 35-45 minutes!! Acoustically speaking, I'd go with Rubber Soul & Revolver. You can do both of those albums pretty nice on acoustic, if you possess any arrangement talents.

My personal favorite is Revolver (UK), even though when I was FIVE years old I had the entire Sgt. Pepper's album completely memorized. Wore the grooves right off of my parents' vinyl record!!

I'm a HUGE Beatles' fan and I love ALL of their albums. They all have a different character and their songwriting cannot be matched.

But again, depends on the mood.

If you are going to do an accoustic set, you may want to add in Imagine and Working Class Hero....

We'll likely add other songs after the main full album cover. I thought the full album cover would be a cool way to go because, like pappy said, the albums all have a distinct feel through out and if you just split them into individual songs you dont get that specific feeling as you do from the full thing. the beatles were geniuses,i dont doubt they spent alot of time organizing what song goes where to produce that effect.

I saw a band do Sgt Peppers this summer at Country Fair, since it was the anniversary of the release. It was fun, but got kinda boring after a little while. I've seen Phish cover the white album and it wasn't boring in the least!

My thoughts: I only like it when a band does the whole album if they are either reproducing it exactly or completely giving it their own interpretation. If you're doing it all acoustic, then give it something of your own, since it's not 'exact'.

Oh, and do Abbey Road, for sure....Come Together, right now, over me!

Here's a vote for Rubber Soul.

Abbey Road and Peppers are such icons that it would be hard to do justice to with an acoustic set, IMHO.
