I had a great runin with Bill Graham in the Shoreline Amphetheatre parking lot during pre-show festivities. I think it was 1989 summer tour. Anyhow, In a VERY stoned & drunk moment I'm the only one in the area who notices that the guy cruizing around the parking lot on a moped all by himself in shorts/no shirt was Bill. So, like the stoned/drunk idiot I was, when he came by our car I flag him down by jumping out in front of him. He lyrched his moped to a stop with the front wheel between my legs looking a little annoyed. But, he took a deep breath and asked me "what I wanted". This was totally unplanned mind you, so I had to think fast...So I said "I just wanted to asked you about a passage from The Electric Koolaid Acid Test (which I just read) where you were involved"; he said "yeah go ahead I remeber things well". So we proceeded with a brief dialouge about the topic, I thanked him, and away he went. A very fond memory.

OK, in short, there is a passage in Electric Koolaide Acid Test about how Kesey was going to dose the water supply at the Filmore or some other place, and Bill Graham was promoting, with politicians/reporters, etc. present. Bill caught wind of Kesey's plan and intervened and somehow stopped it. So I asked Bill about this specific incident and why he intervened. He stated he clearly remebered the night. And matter of factly simply said he couldn't let a bunch of unknowing straight people get dosed like that.

good stuff casper. You impatient bastard. :)

So what's this from? I saw a poster say something about The Last Days of the Fillmore? What was this? A movie? I can't find anything about it. PBS special? I'd love to see more from this.

Bill was awesome. An asshole to be sure sometimes, but who wouldn't be in that type of environment. I'm surprised he drank from that bottle though. I thought Bill was leery of that stuff (bottles "associated" with bands).

I highly recommend Bill's book, Bill Graham Presents: My Life Inside Rock and Out. Fantastic read.

Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test is a book by Tom Wolfe. Highly recommended!
