O.K. pedal-heads I need your help. I want to buy a pedal but I'm not sure if I should buy the Clapton pedal with seven different tones of if I should just buy a wah/wah pedal. I really want a wah pedal but I also want the "woman" tone of Sunshine Of Your Love. So my question is does the Clapton pedal have a wah tone? Surely someone must have this pedal. Thanks.

I don't like digitech nor do I like non-analogue pedals

I did listen to a sample of the Sunshine tone on Musiciansfriend.com but it really wasn't long enough for me to tell if I liked it or not. In your personal opinions which would be more practical? Also there really is no place where I could test one out against a Wah pedal because the only music store in the area is a small little place with only the Hendrix pedal.

in an interview on youtube, clapton was talking about how he gets the woman tone, you dont need the pedal. just the right configs of guitar amp and distortion, i think the main thing was he rolled back his tone knobs all the way.

Do that and then use the wah to get your tone.

woman tone is just turning the knob on your pickup all the way down to 0, so that its mostly bass. dont need a pedal

Cool thanks. I figured Clapton didn't use a pedal to get his tone since I've never seen a pedal to get a "Woman Tone". Thanks again. Also what's the best Wah Pedal? Dunlop or Vox.

I'd go for the wah - so many more tone options.
How much $$ are you looking to spend?

I own this pedal, bought it used at a guitarcenter about a year ago. Like half off. It doesnt have a wah model setting, but if you put a wah pedal in your rotation, you can make it sound alot like the "Cream" Clapton. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Custom SG, with the three humbucker pickups, with a wah pedal and the Clapton pedal, it sounds pretty decent. Defiantley pretty bad ass for Tales of Brave Ulysses. If you want a WAh, get a Wah, if you want a Clapton sound in your rotation, get this, but the Clapton pedal is just that, seven signature clapton sounds. Its got my stamp of approval!

I highly recommend the Crybaby 535Q. I did own a Vox Clyde McCoy...The treble was too hot.

on a real note... i would say don't buy the digital pedal, it will probably be a fun toy for a while but it might not be something you really want or need once you know how to dial in those different tones using the controls on the amp/guitar. if you were to buy a pedal i would suggest a nice overdrive like a Tubescreamer from Ibanez or a Bluesdriver from BOSS for relatively cheap and good-sounding options.

my roommate has a crybaby and i get to mess around with it every now and then. they are a lot of fun but i haven't played with it enough to say that is useful for me, i just can't coordinate my foot rhythms while i'm trying to think melodically and do some texturing with my hands. although i'm sure with practice anything is possible for anyone. i guess its just like driving a car. btw, i love what jerry garcia could do with a wah pedal.

so yeah, definitely give anything you consider buying an extensive test-drive at one of those super guitar stores cuz they have a huge selection and are usually willing to let you fuck around for a while. do side-by-side comparisons until you are pleased with how you are about to spend your money.

I agree. I use my Maxon 0D808 Overdrive more than any other in my chain. Warm overdrive! I just took a new pic of my chain.

I use an RMC Picture Wah - true bypass. I found the 535q to be a bit of a tone suck.

WSP head - are those boss tuners true bypass?

For about $200-$225ish you can buy the V847 pimped out w/ all the mods you need to make the earth shatter and quake and bring gods to their knees. Do a search for wah pedals - I wrote a really long review somewhere in there about this pedal & all the mods Gary did for it. Tell him Benny from Maine sent ya.
