I was down at Levon Helm's place for a Midnight Ramble on New Years.Larry was on guitar as usual and I checked out his pedal board.all pedals where boss except for an ibanez tube screamer and a fuzz or overdrive pedal called Sex Drive.The Boss pedals where as follows compression sustainer,delay,tremelo,digital reverb.No big deal just thought someone might like to know, I like larry he's a good guy and I like his sound.He also played through one of levons silverface deluxe reverbs and played a Nash relic sunburt finish strat.

I like Larry Campbell, very talented. However I do not think he fits into "the Friends" very well. Open for debate.

I was at the 11/2/07 P&F show with Larry & Ryan Adams. Larry was a monster. I was very impressed. I've been listening to the SDB of the show that Phil released last week. I suggest you check it out - it may win you over. Set III is over the top. I know I'm sold!

yea, I'm a big Larry fan myself, but I'd like to see someone w/less whalin', bending blues and a little more gypsy,jazz sensibility..lol

Durham Sex Drive is a Boost pedal- a very high-end boutique quality pedal.

And as far as Larry goes,fwiw I was blown away by the P&F Caution I heard with him playing on it.

Larry is at his prime as a raunchy blues guitbox player. Phil is a little too textured and layered and "symphonic" for Larry's wild blues patterns. Honest question: why didn't Barry Sless play on more songs, I loved the pedal steel with Phil!!!???

The same thing might have been said of Garcia in the late 60's. I say go Larry go!! MUCH MUCH better than that whole Herring Haynes shredfest.

Personally I have to say Haynes>Campbell but maybe I haven't seen Campbell rock out on one of his better nights and maybe Warren's voice makes me biased. I only saw him with Phil one time about a year and a half ago. Trey was on that tour as well and I was pretty much unimpressed with his contribution to the dead songs played. He was going way over the top, and I felt Larry was not playing to the melody of the song enough. But whatever, music is not a competition. Let every man do his own thing. If Phil likes him, then I have no objections. I am sure he is a great guy to hang out with.
