i wish...even though i had my fill living in new york city and seeing glens falls and a bunch of the nokia shows i still wish i was going.

yeah i know what you mean. i saw them at their tour started and let's just say... i would have rather spent the $50 and traveling money on another show.

but yes, i've listened to alot of the more recent shows and they got way better. can't wait for phil to head around here soon!

Ok good, I saw them in.... September? Well early on in their touring. Im glad they tightened it up, im still not a fan of either guitar player though.

I can find twenty guys on this board better than Jackie Green and Larry Campbell, I personally know about ten of them here locally, I am sorry but I gave Phil and the boys every dime I had in the 80's following them all over the country but to get 50 bucks he has to bring a MUCH better product ... I saw Yonder last week for 20 bucks and it was a freaking rage !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phil is not looking for a jerry emulator. First off Jackie Green has an AMAZING voice, better than anyone on this board. He is an excellent guitar player in his own way and a great piano player and a better musician than anyone on this board. Not a improvisational god, but phil is not looking for that. I saw 8 of the shows 1 of the being the glens falls show with trey and it was a very good show. Then i saw 7 at the nokia they were all very good except for one.

That concert was amazing. Phil's band just blew my mind. I am astonished at how quickly Jackie has picked up on the Dead songs. You wouldn't guess he's new to the Dead scene. And it's good Phil found a great singer. He only sang lead on a couple songs and only one made me cringe a little. Great show!

I will see Phil headlining Langerado in March, im crossing my fingers hoping it will be a tight show, I wish I could have seen Jimmy Herring with the band instead.

Okay you guys....FIRST OFF...there isn't anyone out there on this board who can say that anyone is better than anyone on this board. Let's be real about that. No one has heard EVERYONE on this board play in an optimum setting. Regardless of that, Jackie Green is an excellent musician and Phil likes him because he approaches music from a different angle than anyone he's ever played with. I'm not blowing the guy - he's just DIFFERENT. ALSO, Larry Campbell - not that good? Re-he-he-heeeeallly? He's only one of the finest studio guitarists around. My guess is that he doesn't whip out half of his chops-arsenal w/ Phil. You think Phil would hire a mediocre player? He's sick. Might not be YOUR cup of tea, but he's an exremely accomplished player.

SECOND, it's ALL a matter of opinion, people. Taste is subjective. One man's trash is another man's fortune.

Personally, I think Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring are great players, but I cannot STAND seeing the 2 of them play with Phil. There's VERY LITTLE dynamics going on. It seems they are ALWAYS trying to "out-duel" each other and every song becomes nothing but a giant jerk-off session. It gets very annoying to me...but the people I go with are always in awe.

My favorite lineup of Phil & Friends was with Paul Barrere & Billy Payne (from Little Feat) and Robben Ford (a GRAND MASTER guitarist...Phil actually called him "The Master" at the end of the show I saw). Those guys were not only dynamic as hell (you know, those REALLY quite moments where you can hear a pin drop interspersed with the colossal moments), but they took turns with the leads. Robben was on lead most of the night, but Paul took a few and the whole show was just awesome.

ANYWAY, the point is - don't make judgements about anyone's abilities. Your opinions are welcome, but remember that is all that they are!!!

Just my review after seeing many lineups of Phil:

Jackie Greene is an amazing song-writer. Check out his solo work, it is simply amazing. He is style is so sweet. I like him in the band because he can sing, play harmonica (I like GD tunes with harp), and often they play his original songs. AND-- he's very young. As for soloing... hes OKAY. he is new to the improv scene and mostly plays blues licks. I hope he will continue to evolve his soloing methods.

Larry Campbell-- I don't care for him in Phil's band. As someone said earlier, he is a great studio artist. Phil & the dead were never good at that. I just think Larry Campbells style is repetive and distasteful. Like play a blues scale during "Bird Song." Who does that?? BUT- in his defense, he can play mandolin, fiddle, steel, dobro, sitar... just about anything... yet he rarley does. He doesn't fit in to the sound.

My favorite member of the band was John Scofield. THe dude is a jazz/fusion master and really ripped it with Phil. I hope he joins the lineup again soon because his jazzy contributions to the band were great.

I agree with Herring/Haynes just trying to duel each other. Both are some of my favorite guitarists, just not with Phil.

I don't care for the new keyboardist, the guy from particle. I dunno why, but his playing just seems cheezy.

I love when trey A. plays with the boys. His style is so... so.... so GOOD! He can play any mood for any song, but sometimes can be a little over-bearing.

Trey tries to duel him self and ends up masterabting on stage most of the time. I would much rather see Haynes and Herring (which will never happen again) that see ATrey on stage with Phil.

Trey gets too into his own sound. Yes he is an incredible guitarist . . . BUT his voice is weak, and his ego is gigantic

I was recently offered a ticket to a Phil show this weekend. I had to turn it down, I'd consider it if Larry Campell was gone. Jackie Greene was just too intense for my tastes really. Though I do admit he was a good singer. I go for a quasi-dead show and Phils trying to distance himself more or less.
