I was looking for some help or direction on a easy efficient way to record streaming audio from the sound card to .wav or .mp3.
I am sure that most of you know about Sugarmegs website where they just have a ton of live concerts from a lot of great classic bands and single performers. Well as you know, you can only stream these files.
It sure would be nice to record some of these shows as I listen to them so I can replay them elsewhere.
I searched around on line for some shareware and only could find some software that cost$$. The money isn't the problem, I just want to know the product is worth it, or if there is something free out there that works well.
Maybe there is a good program I could just pick up at Best Buy or something.
What is your guys experience with this type of thing? Thanks!

This may sound really old school, but I just record direct to the same mini-disk recorder I use to record gigs and rehearsals.

Yeh I do the same thing hook my edirol mini flash recorder up to my computer.

This might not work on all sites, but I just grabbed a stream of Mama Tried on 2/26/77 from a website that shall remain nameless (not Sugarmegs).

If you listen to the stream via Internet Explorer, the mp3 file will be in your Temporary Internet Files when it's finished.

I had heard you could do that and didn't believe it 'till I tried it myself a few minutes ago...for purely academic reasons of course.

I believe what you're looking for is the is the freeware program "Audacity". I use it to record Sirius Radio for example. it will record anything over your sound card.

you can let the show stream all the way through, and then before you close the window it should be in your internet cache enjoy

Thanks. I have to say I should have opened my eyes before I spoke. These shows are available for download.

They are available for download but you will find that the entire show will be one long file.

I suggest the temp files etc... strategy for all those using .mp3/.wma filetypes, but if it's in a flash player such as youtube or archive.org, you have to use the audacity program technique. I also heard theres a plugin for winamp or something that does this? I've had a good conversation with a few people on if I should attempt to program something that would do this to make some big bucks off pirates world wide.
