One of my son's friends asked me to "jot" down the words and tabs to about 20 tunes for a cover band they have since created.

Next step -> Google.... and here I am.
By the way, I gave the kid the link and a flash drive.

SIDE NOTE: They are playing in the high school's talent show this spring. If able, I will capture on video and merge with a SBD... These kids would be doing back-flips to have their own "Boot". Hey... I may even upload to the archive.....

PEACE,
Phil

Yup, it was a keyword search. The site's changed a bit since. Must've been 8 or 9 years ago. Maybe more.

Discovered it while researching some songs about 8-9 years ago. This was even before I had heard of Google!! Probably Yahoo'ed it. I had already been busy learning/gigging Dead songs for about 12 years at that point, so most of the tunes were already pretty familiar to me. There was no forum or interactivity and at the time I found myself frequently disagreeing with various song keys, fingerings, chords. But I'm sure there were just as many useful nuggets as disagreements- here and there I've pickd up a signature lick or comp pattern, or at least alternate versions. I've never been one for learning specific solos from tab (Jerry played every solo different and that's what I've always striven for)... anyway I didn't visit again for at least a few years and then a couple of years ago I discovered the greatly expanded site with the discussion forums... And I noticed that at least some of the tunes had been updated/corrected/added, and I just dug that they were open for discussion so that hooked me. a truly irresistable way for an incorrigible head/musician like me to waste time!

Two februarys ago i decided i wanted to learn guitar-and i was currently listening to st. stephen. So i grabbed my roomates guitar and typed in grateful dead chords, and BOOM here i was. It was only a month ago i started posting, i just never realized the full usefulness of this site until then. But that was probably a good thing considering i would have gotten lost and discouraged with all the info. SO i just learned st. stephen and kept on truckin. now here we are

I too am one who came for tabs and spoke to frozen cavemen before there was the discussion function. Since then I have felt re-connected. 'Preciate it, heads.
