I was screwing around today, looking through an old book I bought when I first started playing bass. The "Bass Tab White Pages". I flipped to the beatles section, and I figured I would learn paperback writer, as I've never been able to transcribe this one by ear.

So I start playing along with the song on my computer and I realize everything in the book is wrong. Its a half step sharp in the book (F# in the song, G in the book)

so then I flip open the Beatles score book I have, and that says its in G too.

No I own about 3 copies of this song on cd, but I remembered when I wanted it on my computer it was easier at the time to download it. When I did I downloaded it as "Paperback Writer Version 1". I knew the harmony sounded different, but just figured it was a weird mix. Until today, when I put in the 1 cd and realized the song IS in G, and that this version I have on my computer is them recording the song a half a step flat. I mean the thing is completely finished, so its not just a demo. The harmony is all there, the studio effects are all there. So this was a finished product. But then I guess they decided the vocals didnt sound as good in F# as in G so they rerecorded everything a half step higher!

Does anybody else have this version? Maybe shed some light on it for me?

I think Anthology 2 is the one I dont own, which is what I'd assume its on

I havent actually taken the time to search through 30 bootlegs of yet.

it just seemed weird to me that they would take the time to overdub so much stuff, and then just throw it all out instead of just rerecording a vocal part.

Another note is that its even a little slower. Clocks in at 2:38 while the final version comes in at 2:18
