Ya the guy could be a royal asshole, but if you were a kid like like me growing up in the seventies, let's just say back then I idolized the dude. I also trashed many a bicycle in the process.

I always think of that slow mo footage of his spill at caesars palace. As a kid I met him at the Schafer 500 in the Pocono's in the early 70's.

God bless his soul. He was a man's man. Crazy as the day is long yet tough as nails. I was reading up on him on wikipedia . . . and all I have to say is that whoever is working those Pearly Gates best just let him in without question. Although he made his mark in motorbikes rumor is the man could swing a mean baseball bat. :P

I'm with ya, I grew up with my dad talking about this crazy daredevil of a guy who would do just about anything. Saw that movie with George Hamilton about 10 times. The guy was one of a kind. That toy was the best, it was almost indestructible, like he was. My wife actually dated his nephew! Was sad to hear about his passing. One more dead and gone. Bummer

Ditto that!

Also a big fan of Stretch Armstrong. Those 70's toys were the shit.

I've seen many interviews and documentaries on him, and he always came off like an asshole to me. I wish I could be more specific but I can't. I still thought he was the shit when I was growing up.
