So im about to get a new guitar, need some ideas, im either getting a PRS McCarty, or a Gibson les paul. What do you guys think?

Personally Im a huge fan of PRS's. If it was me thats what I would get. And Im sure it has nothing to do with my name being Paul Smith . . .

i have a les paul studio premium plus and its sick as hell. they run about 1500 but i got mine cheap.. u can too, just make the right deal

i haven't played on a prs but i've played a few les pauls and they are great guitars. i'd like to purchase one at some point, but they aren't cheap. i've got a modulus at the moment that plays great, so i'm in no rush.

have you played on both?

Just got a Les Paul and I love it....ALOT!

I am in the minority .. have never liked Les Pauls, could never get over how heavy they are .. have always played strats, but I really like the PRS guitars and hope to own one sooner than later

Well, i own a strat so i am not sure what to say- but i think i would go with the les paul over the prs, but i played bith before i bought my strat and i dug the les paul more. but fuck what we think. buy the one that feels better!

I dont think you could go wrong with either guitar.,.Ted McCarty helped make Les Pauls what they are.,.the PRS McCarty is very close to a LP ie,mahogany body & neck, carved maple top.Most wouldnt know the difference by ear.But the PRS are much more visually appealing imho...

I have a '68 Les Paul, and had a PRS Custom 24. I pretty much stopped using both when I bought my 1st Terry McInturff guitar, a Glory Custom. I have since also had a Zodiac made. Try some of McInturffs, IMHO they're simiar, but better than both.

can't stand les pauls, imho every lp ive played has a shitty neck.

prs, on the other hand, play like butter
and sound nicer
and look better

both are expensive as hell though

Don't overlook Schecters, Carvins, Jacksons- all high-quality instruments that are reasonably priced.

I don't know if it's lefty-related, but I've never picked up a Gibson LP that played well, Epiphones have been consistently better in that regard. Far and away the best LP I've played was one by a Heritage Guitars, but it was $1400.

+1 on Jacksons. Very high quality construction.
And they play like a dream!
Similar to Mesa, they are big in the metal market.
But those who know, know they do more than metal!

You mentioned two opions LP and a PRS.

If considering anouther manufacturer...
I have an old Ibanez Artist ('79). Somewhat hard to find but for the less money than a quality LP and PRS, you can pick up a VERY sweet Artist.

Strummin' said it best, don't limit your choices, unless this is just something you HAVE to have, look around... Charvel's, Jacksons even something that may not have the "Name" may end up being a great playing and sounding guitar...

I have played both. You didnt say which les paul you are talking about.

Some are great and some are not. I have my eyes on a warren haynes les paul.

Some nice things I like about the PRS (besides the looks) is the position of the volume knob. Very easy to work with your pinky while playing, the neck and action are great, very virsatile guitars and they are lighter then the good les pauls.

What I love most about the les pauls above all the things I mentioned above is the warm tone.
