Hey I thought that this might be fun. Has anyone "grown up" in areas where a local has gone on to startdom? I grew up in a town next to where Billy Joel lived. I had not seen him until his band beat mine (and a few others) in a local battle of the bands. Then he had a band "The Hassles" before going solo. I didn't really know anything about him. BUT, I then went off to college in Atlanta in time to see a lot of a hot local band which had released their 1st album and was beginning to go places quickly. It was named after the 2 brothers in the band, LOL. I got to see The Allman Brothers play many times in high school and college gyms, free concerts in local parks and very small venues from mid '69 to just before Duane died. Col Bruce also had a good band that I used to see back then in Atlanta called The Hampton Grease Band.

Grown up?
When I was a teen ,the Hooters came out of Philly.They played everywhere.
Right now I live near where Pink comes from-Doylestown Pa.
Never grow up.

Dave matthews band is from my neck of the woods. Also a faimly friend beat bruce hornsby in a battle of the bands in williamsburg back in the day.

I went to the same high school with one of guys (guitar player) from Faith No More and jammed a few times with Troy (the drummer) from Tesla back in the 70's, my wife went to high school with him...

Im a stones throw from where Phish emerged but I was only 1 when they played their first show.

Yo Deadguise -you the reason they covered Truckin' on that acoustic album?

Well, the Pixies are right outa Amherst MA, missed 'em by a decade though. Doesn't really compare to ABB or Billie Joel though, crazy.

I think two members of the mammals met in Amherst though.

Great picture. Not that I know of, but I saw them many times in somewhat similar settings.

But that's what it's like in the early days of a band, setting up to play and your audience is a few pockets of people here and there. You don't care, you just want to play!
