This is way off topic, but i just went deer hunting this past weekend on opening weekend. Just wondering idf anyone here goes, and how you did if you did go?

Seriously, I archery hunt for elk, deer, bear, & cougar. There's nothing like it!

I'm not like Ted Nugent or anything, but I do think people who eat meat should have the experience of hunting they're own food (gutting it and cutting it up too). Makes a person feel much closer to the land/planet, IMO.

It's much like the satisfaction of growing your own vegetables or HERBS!

He's very well respected by many for his hunting integrity and love of nature and respect for it. Also he has been very charitable over the years especially to nations suffering from lack of food.

The 4 legged animals thing creeps me out. I was Disneyed and working to overcome that.

I really have nothing against old Ted, some folks think the guy is pretty out there, and maybe I am too, but differently!

Me too! Unfortunately we don't have the strong salmon or steelhead runs anymore on the east side of the state like you folks on the west side.

On something totally unrelated: I'm headed to Seaside for a conference in the morning. Any Dead cover bands or other cool live tunes that you know of over there?

Usually the name T.N. is received with spit, vile, anger and hatred in G.D. forums so I was just trying to make sure the train didn't derailed from the thread's intent!

My mistake there. You and tigerstrat have the same icon, and I was thinking you were in Portland, OR. Seaside is on the coast just about an hour from there.

Guess I should pay more attention!

Seaside, OR is the first beach town one hits as one drives west from Portland on US 26. It's kinda resorty, and the beaches generally get better as you go south from there.

I don't hunt or fish for that matter. A bit of bird watching takes me out on the Applachian Trail here in Pencil-tucky.

They have very regulated hunting seasons here. Deer season opens the Monday after Thanksgiving. It has been grouse season and fox and some other small game so far. Schools are closed around my area on the Monday after Thanksgiving cause so many teachers hunt.

My only problem w/ hunting is that when we wanted to go up the mountain to look for late raptor migrators, i.e. goshawks, peregrines, golden eagles... we would dress the colors but still worried as we hiked along a twenty foot wide protected area on the trail, amidst the shots. There are always the stories about yahoos shooting each other each year. We stopped going up during hunting season when the children came along.

However, do not be fooled people. Protect the right to bear arms as well as the right to arm bears!!!! Even if you are a pacifist like myself.

The Supreme Court is going to decide whether Americans have the right to individually bear weapons. Personally, I want all those hunters to have their guns, just in case. Can't trust the current state of American society to preserve the freedoms as spelled out in the Constitution. I read it regularly. Do you? If you do, then you know what I mean.

Anyway, to those who hunt, please take care as some of us are out there just enjoying nature.

Bet I've got a gun for every ace we've both drawn. And I plan to keep it that way!

I for one think Ted's an asshole. Not because of the hunting but just the way he gets cocky and self righteous. He slammed Jerry so that doesn't help either. I have a whole herd of deer that practically live in my back yard. They are so tame I walked up to a doe and patted it's head just to see if I could. I have nothing against 'ol Ted if he wants to clean up my yard. The deer poo is getting thick(and my dog eats it...yum!). Oh, and he (Ted) can hunt too.
