For real? Get the rolling thunder live album. It has got a great version on it, as well as the studio version on Desire

This is my favorite version I've heard of this song. So much faster and more aggressive than the Desire version. I dont know if its just me, but I always think dylan sounds his best when he sounds pissed (Masters of War, Ballad of a thin man, this Isis, etc)

a dvd of this song came with a copy of the best Dylan bootleg series cd's, the Rolling Thunder Revue one from '75 or '76. It's Dylan at his best, live. In fact, I'm in the middle of the book "On the Road with Dylan" written by Larry "Ratso" Sloman, Kinky Friedman's good friend. Ratso is a character and was a good friend of Abbie Hoffman and Howard Stern. He wrote the book as he was on the whole tour and it's just been re-released. It's one of the best on that era. Isis is a powerful song and the version on Biograph, where he dedicates it to Leonard Cohen, is also great. Check it out if you can.

and basically all of his '65,'66 shows. he had to put out an aggressive vibe to get people's attention and show he meant business. he wasn't selling out
