OK, I have a fairly old iPod, I don't know exactly what Gen, it was actually remarketed by HP.

It has an occasional (and recent more often) issue where it is playing and it just stops in the middle of a song and freezes. There is nothing I can do to shut it off or get it going again. All I can do is to wait until the battery dies and recharge it.

I have tried the basic reset methods that I know, I am hoping that there is some secret reset (or some secret cure) that someone knows.

Hmm well ive had 3 ipods now. An old skool 5th gen or somethin like that, a nano, and a new 80gb video. All 3 have had that problem and I always just use the factory reset which is holding like menu and middle button or menu and pause. Cant remember for the old ones but its somethin like that. If thats what your sayin you tried already then damn I dunno. The HP Ipods were a rare thing so I imagine they coulda been pretty buggy. Oh first turn hold off and on a couple times. Good luck man.

Hmm Not sure where to go from there then. If you want you could buy my old one hehe. Been tryin to sell it for a while. Plus it comes with lots of Dead. 20Gb Let me know Ill give a good deal.

honestly i guess you've tried restoring the factoy settings already and if so...its time for a new pod

This sounds weird. Only two options I can think of:

1. Have you tried updating the firmware on the iPod? Here's a link to a version of the updater:

2. Once it gets "frozen", can you plug it in at that point? Does anything happen? Or do you have to wait for the battery to die before you can plug it in (either to an electrical outlet or your computer)?

I believe I am up to date on the firmware.

I have not tried plugging it in to resolve it, but it usually happens when I am on a plane......but if I can try that next time, I will.

i just got my first ipod a coulple of weeks ago... an 80gig classic and it did that a couple of times the first week i got it... i updated the itunes or whatever and its been workin fine
