So my band is going to play a show soon. I was wondering what you guys do for lighting? I know that the venues have lights, but do you guys do any cool lighting of your own? Does anyone have any cool ideas?

musicians friend has some cool cheap lighting setups if the place doesnt have any

They have lighting at the show, but it's just like 4 colors that blink to the beat. We want something for when we go into like a trippy jam. Were thinking about using a strobe, for some of it, but we would like some more ideas.

Are you gonna tape the show?

Yeah actually we are taping this show, and getting a soundboard recording. It is going to be a divd for our press kit.

what're you using to tape, i'm a n00b when it comes to recording but if you could steer me in the way of a good recorder that can transfer files to my comp (preferably cheap) i'd be very thankful

truthfuly i don't know yet. I know the guy who runs the sound board does it. But i don't know what he uses

for lighting you could go old school, get an overhead projector and use oils and dyes

i think the over head projector idea is great. Not only is it cheap, but it is more psychadelic than lights for sure. You would however need to make sure your eyes aren't bothered though. I wouldn't like having a bright light in my face.

i don't know if i'm sure i know about what your guys are talking about with the overhead projector? How does that work?

you get clear sheets of plastic to put over the glass on the projector, drop some oil on it, then some food coloring and lift the corners of the plastic and move the liquid around so that the dye and oil roll over each other thus producing psychedelic wonder

Strobes suck. I hate them.

the glass bowl works a lot better than I what i was suggesting, same concept. I wouldn't use strobes though it really isnt a psychedelic effect (unless its on slow with a blacklight gel then I guess it could be)
