can someone give me some general info on Bobs guitar the Cowboy? i havent found any at all, is this a guitar you can still purchase?

Well, it's an Ibanez and I don't think when he got them in the late 70's that it was originally a production guitar, however just a few years ago (2004 or 2005?) it was offered as a VERY limited production run. (You want numbers? I'm writing from my foggy 3rd person memory)

A friend of mine in Chicago got extremely lucky and scored one at a shop in Madison sort of out of the blue. He really loves it (although I think he loves his 4 or 5 Travis Beans much much more).

Agreed on all counts. He loves his TB's best, more than his wine.

I was fortunate enough to play his Cowboy and what a sweet guitar.

Sadly, I was a bit nervous to play such an expensive & rare instrument.

id a been a nervous wreck myself. i think its a beautiful instrument, and Bobby shoulda busted it out in the later years. or did he?

I made a guitar based on the Cowboy.
That same guy from chicago supplied the outline and some tech info.
He said hes capable of getting some good "Jerry Tones" from it.
The one item that is tough to replicate is the eq system.

It does have a twangy sound and great sustain.
I opted for three Virtual PAFS with coil taps, as 24 frets.
I also mounted an acoustic saddle pickup between the neck and the middle pickup.

The cowboy replica not original.

Bobby has been very interested and driven by technology. Rather admirable considering his partner basically played an only slightly evolved rig for 25 years.

Even recently he was doing modelling with Line6 for preamps, cabs, effects, etc.

But, IMO his best tones were found 73-79.

still id be pretty excited to play on a replica, let alone see one in person. and agreed on the tonal timeline there strummin' specially those early 70's
