I've noticed that 'this must be the place(naive melody)' sounds better if i play the G,Am7,Bm7 with the high e string tuned down to B. what tuning is this called? is there any dead songs or other songs anyone knows of that sound better with this tuning?

So you would tune the high e string (first string) to a B? the same as the second string?

yes. i think i turns most chords into a 7th

also, i was playing the song 'golden' today by my morning jacket. its tuning is very fun. lots of open strings for an "airy" sound

I am not really familiar with that tuning although it is an E minor open tuning but that is usually done like this.
