I saw this earlier today. It's the biggest crock of shit I've seen in a while. And I go to school in Georgia! Seriously though, that is really fucked up. He wasn't looking for trouble or anything. Dammed pigs.

Let me say I have a strong dislike for cops, however, if three or four had a hold of me I would stop struggling, I know what they are capapble of. If this was the inner city on a back street, that kid could be killed by those cops. Don't break the law and don't resist arrest. Cops scare me... so I cowere in the dark, with my lighter!

Right up the street from me....relatively.
I will say, playing devil's advocate, that there are reports that when the camera was not on the student, he was quiet and cooperative.

he kind of was. from what i read he went over the time alotted for mic use and the cops asked him to leave. he refused and they tried to escort him out of the building. he tried spinning away and generally to escape.
so arresting him i have no problem with
tazing isnt justified here at all though

Gotta love the "I hate cops" crowd.
For all you who fall into that camp, would you dial 911 if somebody was trying to attack you, hurt you, or break into your house?

This is right up the street from me, literally. I live .5 miles from UF, and I'm a full time student there.
I don't mean to sound like a dick (and I'm not known to love the fuzz), but, while the cops may have over-reacted, this clown had it coming. You don't resist 4 or 5 arresting officers without suffering some kind of consequences.
And the youtube clip was a bit out of context, as others here have suggested. John Kerry was speaking at a "town hall meeting" type event. Everyone was given the opportunity to speak at the micorphone, but this guy went way over his alotted time and had already been asked by the cops a few times to stop.
So while the taser was may not have been necessary (at least not AFTER the guy had been handcuffed), I don't think that it is really the cops that are at fault here...

One more thing--
The most aggregious (sp?) cop-related offense I've ever witnessed first hand was during the last two years of the Dead's two annual show in Giants' stadium.
Some one in the parking lot security had the great idea to give the parking lot security guys sewing needles so they could go around and pop everyone's nitrous ballons.
There is no more tragic look than the look of hippy who just had his ballon popped in mid-inhale

While yes, this man probably was using the media to make a political statement, that doesn't mean that he should be treated any harsher than is absolutely necessary.
The cops have every right to drag his ass out of there kicking and screaming, but in this case, with 6 cops, there was no immediate need for this gentleman to be tazed.
I cringed watching this video, but in retrospect, the "Don't taze me, bro!" part is darkly humorous. I'm pretty sure he's not your brah, bro.

i couldnt help but laugh at that. if it were anyone but the police shocking him it'd be hilarious. the guys clearly an idiot seeking attention and or a good chunk of change from a lawsuit, he was probably grinning ear to ear while being shocked but regardless it's unnecessary on the po's part

Disagree. The cops should not be subjected to person kicking at them. Ever had a knee blown out? Not hard to do and a big risk for somebody whose career is on foot.
