Not completely sold on it yet - I'll give my opinion after the Boston shows on 10/9 & 10/10 (uhh...FRONTOW for 10/10 so I should have a better opinion after that for sure!)

i think it will be awesome. i only started listening to Jackie Greene when i heard Phil announce him as his new "friend"(sweet somewhere bound is a sweet album"). He's soulful and has a great voice. I trust Phil's judgement, he has yet to let me down. Can't wait for the GREEK!!!.

I am a huge jackie greene fan but still not sold on the line up. Jackie greene is an amazing songwritter and all of his albums are fantastic (sweetsomewhere bound and american myth are the most mature sounding) He also puts on a killer show with his band but I am not completly sold on him with phil.

One reason is he is a great songwritter and only a good guitar player. In fact I think he shines mostly on keys but he doesn't play them with phil. So the jams will be limited and larry campbell is not my favorite "friend" either so he brings this line up down imho. I like jackie's voice for garcia songs. I have always been a fan of a good countryish voice for garcia in cover bands (like cosmic charlie) He has a good range and really puts emotion behind the words. I like the jackie greene songs that phil picks with the exception of "i'm so gone" which is a good song but their are others that would fit phil's sound better "supersede", "I dont care about my baby", or "farwell, so long, goodbye" would be better fits. (imho)

My favorite part of this is that now jackie greene is starting to play some dead songs at his shows with this band. Still think that it would have worked best with jackie on keys and having sless and herring (sad to see him out of the friends rotation) on guitars (now that is my kind of lineup).

I'm going to the Camden show on October 12th so that's when I can make a decision about the lineup.

Look at Jackie and Ryan Adams, I think that Phil is hiring guys that are bigger nerds than him even !!!! Gotta love it .. yet Jackie doesn't warrant a 50 dollar ticket in my book.... gonna take my Mandolin down to Dulcinea's and sit in with Shakin Bones and thrash a bit !!!!!!
