Portable effects processor

I play mostly my Martin acoustic but I want to play a little bit more electric and do some recording and play out more often. I currently have a line 6 pod which is great for running my guitar through my home stereo so that I can can get goods sounds and sustain at low volume and Crate amp along with a distortion and flanger pedals when I want to make some real noise. I was going to buy a loop machine so that I can make backing tracks to play to. I noticed the cost of a portable digital effects processor is not much more than a loop machine and nowdays can do a lot more than my 10 year old line 6 pod. I would use this for playing out through my amp and just junk my pedals or home recording into a computer. I'm looking for feedback on how differn't units (Boss, digitech etc) might sound running my electric through an amp to play with my friends and how easy or difficult units are to actually record and edit tunes. Any feedback from anyone who is using one of these would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure on effects units but you want to run your mMartin into something that will really give it some tone try this out

Have you considered upgrading your POD?
I record with mine every so often and it's simple!
And yes, I've played thru my home stereo too!

A started out wanting to get a loop pedal. I don't think the newer pods have that feature but I may be wrong. Noticed that the multi effects processor were not much more bills than the loop or pod and give me a better looper plus more features than the pod. So there I am. Just loking to find one that has good sound and is simple to use.
