The rumor up here in the hills, Nershi is a neighbor of sorts, is that Billy is leaving the band, the band is not breaking up, and that there is a really good chance at some point the rest of them will continue forward in a trancey kind of way ... in my book no Nershi no Cheese, they will be a techno band before we know it

well see here this is how string cheese incident continues without bill
1)lose their drummer
2) change their name to yonder mountain string band
smooth transition eh?

no nershi no cheese is right.
i liked their more jamgrass sound anyhow back in 98-2000 ie carnival, songs like barstool, ten miles to tulsa, hotel window, are my favorite oh wait their all nershi songs, the whole scene changed a lot over the last few years i went to a show in chicago and their was all these rave kids their it reminded me of a sts9 show, no disrespect, but when i think sci i think rock, bluegrass, jam, not techno, raving bullshit,i think kang and hollingsworth are the ones that were really pushing for that trancey almost techno sound, and nershi just kind of wanted to go back to his roots of bluegrass pickin with honkeytonk homeslice, i really am interested to see how this pans out, considering how big they got over the last 5 years, now nershi is gonna be playin smaller venues and bars which i think is really sweet
just my 2 cents

Right! Honkytonk Homeslice are a fantastic band. This whole thing is probably temporary anyhow. They have to get back together. Don't know where, don't know when...

Perhaps part of the problem is that you still use the term techno. I don't mean any disrespect either but nobody says "techno" any more. Electronica is a much better term.
What made Cheese stand out so far above the rest was their ability to pull off bluejamgrass and other more spacey trancy type sounds in the same set. Nobody else even comes close in that department. Scenes change, I keep getting older and the ravers keep staying the same age. But you are right, no Nershi, no Cheese.
I just hope that the "Keller Williams Incident" can come up with a new name. Food names are so hot these days. How about "Melted Butter" or better yet, "Ghee Whiz"?

Well since everyone is sharing there 2 cents here is mine.
I got into cheese in early 2000, when in my opinion was a great time to start listening to them. I couldn't get enough and still cant, yes people may say they lost there jam grass roots but thats what bands do throughout time. Look at the dead, now I know they didnt' really change there style or type of music but they did a lot throughout the years they played, no one can tell me that from 60's to the 90's there sound didn't improve or verry from year to year.
I like cheese and if they proceed to go on without bill, I hope they have a great trip and have fun with the music there playing, Bill did bring that bluegrass/jamgrass sound to them but I still verry much like cheese.
I hope Bill the best and look forward to seing him with Honkytonk Homeslice.

Toaster Pastry Chocolate-Mix Butter Bar"
But I think
Hot Buttered Rum has that turf pretty well staked out... WAY better band than SCI too.

Look at all the side projects , Zilla and so forth, everybody in the band has gone in the direction of trance music, Billy obviously isn't into it, you can't hardly hear Billy in the mix half the time with all the trancey stuff... Billy is following his heart and playing the music he loves with Honkytonk Homeslice, the other guys are into different stuff ... you can read every single article about Cheese out there and not once do they say the band is breaking up, they day Billy is leaving the band, period, I don't blame him, the club kid scene at the shows is a freaking joke ... kids in pink wigs and so forth who sit down during the acoustic sets and then go crazy when the trance jams start

exactly, alot of people love Cheese Trance, but Billy doesn't, nobody is a bad guy, everybody is cool with everybody, everybody does what they want, the rest of the guys will be back .... it is what they still do best

If the new Cheese doesn't jump all over "Toaster Pastry Chocolate-Mix Butter Bar"...well then I will. It will be the name of my soon to be new band. It's that sick. But HBR a better band than SCI? Just what was in those toaster pastries anyways?

Cheese will live on
Billy will be back 'round at some point, I hope
The side projects rule in their own right
That comment about "techno/electronica" was pretty retarted, but the next post more than made up for it in getting a laugh out of me
PS - Billy leaving SCI is a GOOD thing, for him, and probably for the band....call it "preventative maintenance"

SCI's electric jams are sick. things seem to "get hot" people get down harder You get sucked in and taken to new places musicly. in my opinion they should recrute K-Dub and just keep on going where they left off. Kang is my faveorite. little hands Lands end, and Mouna Bowa are the best.
