I dont remember if I heard it that day or the day after but I do remember how bummed I was. I still am bummed but not as much. Sometimes I still am in denial about it.

The way I look at it now, especially since my own father died in front of me 4 years ago, is that I am grateful for all that he was able to give me. There is no doubt that Jerry has influenced my life, my attitude, outlook and certainly how I spend my time.

Much love Jer Bear! Can you please come and visit me and offer me a deal for my soul in exchange for some tighter chops?

Hey guys, I tell this story once a year. On August 9th 1995, my wife called me after she heard that Jerry had died. No biggie. I had heard right when I got to work from some of my understanding staff. They knew my deal and handled it well. What was really special was that my daugher, who was 2 and a half at the time and had already been to 7 Dead shows, woke up telling my wife that "Jerry flew over my bed last night." Cool thing was, this happened an hour before my wife heard about Jerry passing.

Rest In Peace Jerry,

Gil

I am just happy and forever Grateful that I got to see Jerry as many times as I did , every time I meet somebody that never got the opportunity I want to grieve for them ...

I never got the opportunity to see Jer. I really wish I could have. I'm forever Grateful for all the music he's provided the world with. Jerry has certainly made my life, along with so many others a better place. R.I.P. Jerry Garcia.

My birthday. In '95 I was busy falling in love with the woman who would become my wife. It softened the blow so well that I actually didn't really come to terms with it until much later. I have a mutual deadhead friend who shares this birthday and he and I decided it was "just another way we'll always be connected to the Dead". Bittersweet.

I was just thinking that myself. I can't believe how quick this year has gone, all of a sudden it's going to be 2010!

Saw the news on MTV of all places. I was broken that day. Got together with some other heads and migrated to the river. There is a big rock there that has a steal your face painted on it and there was a bunch of people out. We had brought some hand drums and a guitar. We probably sang ripple 30 times that day. A lot of people just singing and crying. Didn't seem real. Still doesn't.

That where I can still feel jerry, is in the people he's touched. I didn't see great shows going to "the dead" shows in 03 and 04 but the lot scene gave me that old feeling back. The feeling I felt the day he died and the feeling I had at my first show at RFK in 94. That is why I need Dark star and rat dog and phil and friends. To hear the songs. And feel jerry's energy in the crowd. He isn't up there on the stage anymore but he is still around.

Fare thee well

So, on the note of Aug 9....Last night I played a solo gig at this bar I hang out in here in Mexico City. I decided kind of spontaneously to play Black Peter and expalained to the audience the signifigance of the day etc....Long story short, BP is normally really difficult for me to nail vocally, especially the bridge. But last night something was in the air and I dunno, I was really on. I don't wanna sound conceited, but it was probably the best version I've ever played, and maybe the best song in the first set. I love that feeling! I gotta agree with a previous poster, Jerry ain't with us any more, but he's around. I felt him last night, no doubt.

Thanks again for all the inspiration and good feelings Jer. Sure do miss ya.
