ummm.... just curious, how does this apply to your sitar-itis problem (I think you mean your guitar is suffering from sitar-itis)? Either way, I was addicted to the sound of sitars, I even almost bought one once, buy I couldnt justify sending $600 to Europe for an instrument I have never played....

if u have a tune-o-matic bridge just try to adjust the action yourself...maybe raise the bridge a little bit and then adjust the saddle until your intonation is correct...if worse comes to worse and you cant fix it yourself or make it worse trying to lol, just go get a set up. should be cheap/easy unless there is some warping but probably not it would most likely affect more than just the e

Adjust the neck for a bit more relief. A bit heavier string gauge can help as well, the two together may fix it without any other intervention.

+1 on neck relief. Need to loosen the truss rod just a smidge. If that doesn't get it, I'd spring the $50 or so to get a set up done. Makes a world of difference even on axes you thought were okay.

If it is an isolated buzzing (just on 1 string or 1 fret all or some strings) it is a fret problem.

I also know that fender style nuts if not slotted properly will cause a sitar sound.
Hold the string down on the third fret and tap it on the first , if you here it hitting the fret the nut slot is not too low. It still may be too high, or maybe its me :D
