i dunno i'm instantly skeptical when i see these "prodigies" usually these kids are popular for a bit then kinda disapper because they cant do anything new or really anything besides copy old bluesmen

and as jerry said you can have all the talent in the world but if you cant play with a group you're worthless

i agree, but there is no doubt about his talent, he plays fucking good

i didtn really like this. he played fast no doubt, but a lot of the notes sounded out-of-key. it's also just another SRV ripoff

couldnt agree more but it's the same thing as with vince, gotta feel bad at the giant decline thats coming for him. he's a novelty probably bullwhipped into being a srv clone that cant sing by his parents.

Wow. you people are harsh. Give the kid a break. How many here could play that as well as he did? How many wish they could? Seriously, I know he's totally apeing SRV note by note but still he does a damn good job. He could be out there folowing Fallout Boy and playing their shit. Same goes for that Youtube vid of the Korean girl playing SRV. As long as they are keeping the blues alive, that's what matters.

One more thing, if I judged the Dead on the basis of hearing one of their many lame attempts at doing a cover I woulda gave up on them before I even got started. Sorry for the rant.

Right with you Bo D. It seems like people here expect him to have found his own voice already. Not that I like him, but John Mayer was an SRV clone for most of his young guitar life and he obviously took it in a different direction. Give the kid some time. We all start somewhere. Did Jimmy Page come out as a kid playing like Jimmy Page, not a shot. He took it from old delta blues players. The same for Jimi Hendrix, and yes, even the same for our beloved Jerry. Jerry's early riffs were copped note for note from Freddie King, listen to it and it is pretty obvious.

Bottom line, lots of jealousy in this thread.

And Bo, great point about keeping the blues alive. How many 12 year olds do you know who even know what the blues is?

I could care less if the blues are kept "alive" whatever the hell that even means. There were some blues guys who were crazy good, but 98% of the blues artists just mimic other blues artists. Its boring to hear the same thing on every album.

Im not jealous because I would rather play something new.

And I Don't give a shit how good he can rip off SRV, its still ripping off SRV. If he ever gets good then come back and he can have credit.

I know i'll probably get a bunch of shit for it, but the blues is over for now. Maybe someday people will actually feel it again instead of "look i can play like SRV" but right now i know of no innovative blues players. They just copy shit to no end.

If someone has any examples of contemporay blues players who are doing something new, please show me.

Oh yeah and guy who was talking about John Mayer, He has not done anything except rip off SRV and hendrix licks or write a bunch of shit pop songs. In fact everytime I hear his version of bold as love i want to puke.

Well to me keeping the blues alive means making sure that one of the few truly American art forms is kept alive. Maybe you would rather the kids today not care about the blues, and that is fine, but for me, I would like to see the art form kept alive. Same for Jazz. Both. 100% USA.

Jerry, Jimi, Clapton, all started out as blues players and copping riffs from them. To me it is a rite of passage for guitar players. If you don't dig it, no worries from me at all. But there is something about the guitar that is synergistic with the blues. No instrument out there matches the guitar as far as translating that emotion.

I remember when I was a teenager taking guitar lessons and my teacher was trying to force feed me some BB King. I didn't get it. Said he had no chops, too slow, no fire.

Years later it all made sense. Much like Miles Davis, it is not just the notes you play, but the space between them.

All I am saying is there is no reason to rip apart a 12 yr old doing anything. Unless of course you are 12 as well. Then it is fair game.
