Google has added a new feature to its maps called street view.

Go to google maps and type 1500 Haight Street, San Francisco, CA 94117. Take a little walk around, check out who is on the streets.

Better yet, try 710 Ashbury Street. You can pan the camera and zoom, you can practically look through the windows and see what the current tennants are upto...

Pretty cool, but it doesn't seem to work everywhere. I tried my address and then a couple of more metropoliton addresses I know and Street View was not an option.

Looks like San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver, Miami and New York City are the only active views. Not all streets are covered.

If you go to http://maps.google.com and click Street view from there, you will see the active cities. Then click on one of those cities and a map will appear with the street views highlighted in blue.

I just took a walk around the World Trade Center in NY. Pretty interesting view. Think I will head up towards Central Park for awhile.

Clearly not real time, but still worrying (if fun) invasion into privacy. As with the other maps services, addresses are not perfect, and it takes a little bit of work to get 710 to come into clear view, even if you know already what the house looks like...
