Hey y'all

Looking for advice on the following, maybe looking at purchasing one or both and was wondering if anyone here could give any feedback. Thanks!

1.) Fender Twin Reverb '65 Reissue

2.) a Leslie speaker

I'm not too sure about the Leslie, though. Never played w/ one, and I've heard they're incredibly bulky and inconvenient, not to mention not all that plausible for a player like me (I play at small bars, parties, etc.) But I know that both Jerry/Phil and Trey played/play with one, so there's gotta be something to them, eh?

Love the 65' Reissue Twin. Pretty easy to carry to gigs, 85 watts is plenty of juice anywhere. Unmistakable Fender sound. There are lots of pretty easy modifications you can do and I am sure there a few guys here who can suggest some.

But if you are looking for that spanking clean tone with the vintage character, you can't go wrong with the Reissue Twin Reverb. I never modded mine and always loved its sound.

Just know that you will need a drive pedal for driven tones as the Twin is virtually impossible to drive into distortion without mods or making everyone near you deaf.

As far as the Leslie, are you insane? Very very heavy, that is the last thing you want to be carrying to gigs. If you have a large truck, a lift, and some roadies, or diesel shemale groupies then definitely go for it. If not, get a Leslie emulator type of pedal, maybe a Univibe or the more complicated Boss RT-20.

How many amps do you want to own?

Ideally you'd have 2 one in the 85-100 watt range and another in the 35-45 watt range.

IMO if you can only have 1 and on a budget the 65 TRRI is a decent choice. But you've got to check them out carefully. A few years back they had a bad run of parts that caused some phase oscillation/parasitic oscillation sorta thing which would have made them impossible to record with but the newer ones seem okay.

On another note they weigh a ton.

I'm not sure for an 85 watt 2x12 you could find something much lighter than a Twin. I always thought they were relatively light, considering my other 85 watt amp is a Boogie MkIV.

Yeah, after the purchase of my Hollowbody, I kind of am on a budget, really looking to stay below a grand on an amp, even then I shouldn't really be spending the money in the first place, but you guys know how it goes. I've gotta upgrade from my HotRod Delux, but I still want to make sure I squeeze as much quality as I can out of the purchase, you know?

Crazy - so as far as distortion goes, will I get as much as I am currently getting out of my HotRod without having to mod it? I'm no whiz when it comes to amp mods (I'm quite the idiot, actually) so I probably won't be going down that road. Does it really have that little of distortion built in? What about my 2 modded Tubescreamers, will they suffice?

I run a Analog Man TS9(silver mod) and a Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive through my Twin. Heavenly tones galore. I would suggest bringing your TS9 with you when you go to play through the Twin Reverb at your guitar shop.

I'm looking to get rid of my Twin (I've been trying to get around to posting it on Ebay for a while now_=), and it's in very nice condition.

I've only gigged with it 4 or 5 times and it never left my supervision the whole time so I can vouch for it.

Besides that, it never leaves my home.

I could part with it for a very budget-friendly amount, so if you're interested PM me.

As far as weight goes any 2x12 tube combo is heavy. Maybe lighter by comparison but still very, very heavy, IMO. That's why many who gig either go small or head/cab.

As far as cleans - expect zero clipping from a properly running Twin unless you have very high output active humbucking pickups then maybe.

shakedown, what type of tone are you going for? A hallowbody, Twin and Screamers is Trey IMO.

You got it - both are the silver mods, as well. Absolutely LOVE THEM, too. awesome pedals. One is a TS9, the other is the TS808 reissue.
