combining 2 songs into one MP3 file

I suppose this question may be better posted on some computer forum, but since this seems to be a big issue with Dead albums I thought I pose the question to this group.
I have a lot of music on my MP3 player and I like to throw in a good mix of songs in random mode sometimes, but I get pissed off when it splits a "China/Rider" into China and Rider, with the song splitting mid-jam. This is even worse when you have a "He's Gone> Truckin'> Nobody's Fault But Mine> Jam> The Other One> Jam> Stella Blue" for example.
Does anybody know of any software that I could use to combine these 2 files into one big MP3? Maybe there's some good software out there that can record the songs this way straight from the CD.
Anybody else have this problem? Any tips?
