I was curious if anyone has two different speakers in their 2x12 cabs. Right now i have two JBL e120's in both 2x12 cabs. But i was debating trying a different speaker in one of the cabs, along with the JBL. I have a Jensen C12K that handles 100watts. Its 8ohm. Was thinking of putting this in the top of the 2x12 with the JBL being on the bottom. Just curious what everyones thoughts are about mixing speakers.

From a player's perspective, it's common and great results. Some of the best sounding amps I've heard live had complimentary speakers!

From a mic'ing perspective, you need to pick one and sometime requires some extra EQ'ing

THe nice thing i have with my SMS setup with the ART power amp is, Channel A goes to the top speaker and Channel B goes to the bottom speaker. I like to have the bottom speaker mic'd so i can turn up the top speaker without messing with sound guys. But i can get a lil more stage volume when needed.

But i think im gonna try the Jensen C12K in the top position and the JBL e120 on the bottom. See how it goes during rehearsal tonight

The only issue mixing speakers is what to mic, if you are doing that. Unless you mic both speakers and the sound person knows what to do. Otherwise, you can get interesting sounds to your ears and in a room.

Im gonna give it a go and ill post what my thoughts are . So Jensen c12K on the top and JBL e120 on the bottom of 2x12. As i said i have power amps A channel going to the top speaker (@ 100watts). B channel going to the bottom speaker (@ 100watts). So the Jensen would be the top speaker i adjust onstage for more stage volume (without driving sound guy mad). THe bottom JBL will be what the audience hears.

I have a cannabis Rex and a copperback in my TR and love it, but just play it at home and never mic it.

Keep in mind, unless you're playing a really big room, adjusting stage volume will cause the soundguy to adjust faders, likely bring you down in the mix and others up, just adjusting the input gain.

Im pretty good at onstage Vol. I just find it nice to know i can control what i hear. Especially important when your deaf like me. HAHA!

I run the direct out from my Quilter Mach 3 to a spot monitor on a mic stand. I can turn it up and hear “more me” without affecting the stage volume or FOH mix.
