Hi Guys,

Hope all is well. Looks like I'll have an extra JBL E-120 on hand and thought it could be a good idea to put it into a portable speaker head / cabinet combo. Not looking for anything too crazy. More just good sound and reliability for basement playing and occasionally playing with friends in a garage. Reverb being necessary. Tremolo a plus.

If you guys were putting one together, what would you use?

A Milkman of some sort?

A handwired Fender?

A Mesa?

Something different?

Thanks!

Traditional route: I'd look for a Pro Reverb and pop it in there.

Non-traditional:
Rack up an SMS + poweramp
Quilter US superblock

I hated the Milkman. Dark and broody without snap and attack.

Thanks, gang!

I do have an older Princeton Reverb, but reluctant to mod it since it's original.

I have an SMS and Carvin DDM2000L in a small U rack together that can act as a head. Currently connected to an EVM 12L which sounds great. For whatever reason it doesn't sound great connected to the JBL's. Gets dark and muddy while my Milkman 100 (which I used for a headphone amp primarily) sounds much better connected directly to the JBL.

I guess I could try the SMS to the Milkman to a JBL. Although that's not getting into the portable vibe with 3 different pieces.

All things to ponder and experiment with it seems!
