Boss TU-2 replacement buffers and what not

So my TU-2 has stopped working. I haven't given up on it completely, but I'm considering buying another one. Possibly something different.
I ran the tuner first in my pedal chain and never noticed any tone loss. I've read it acts as a buffer. Does the pedal have to be "on" for that to take place?
Anyone have opinions or experiences?

The T.C. Electronics Polytune 3 and Polytune 3 Mini have built in buffers. They are also among the very few tuners that are bright enough to be seen in direct sunlight (think outdoor gigs).

Thanks for responding lbpesq, but check it out, I fixed it. The input for the power supply was dirty. Also, the first time I took it apart I dropped the plastic divider Boss puts in it's pedals. Luckily I just swept the shop and checked the trash and there is was. So once the power jack was clean it would work if I left the enclosure open. Put in the plastic bit and good as new!
