So basically I am trying to build an Alligator replica and might have used the wrong oil/ varnish. I'm still very new to this stuff and do not want to have to buy a new body. Are there any alternatives to get the yellowish maple tint that jerrys guitar had? Please go easy on me, like i said im new    Image

When I built mine, I started with amber tinted rattle can nitro from Stewmac. I applied very thin coats until I got the shade I wanted, then finished with several coats of clear nitro.

Bill, tgo

Yellow dye on the wood followed by amber shellac. Part of that color comes from the lacquer yellowing over time.
