I was searching the net for the trippiest movies ever. Does anyone here have any suggestions?


The trippiest movies I've seen

#1+ Une vraie jeune fille (1976) - Strange to say the least, but very good and colorful.

2. IMAX Coral Reefs (Mute sound) - WOW! (IMAX - Antartica and Deserts are great also)

3. Evil Dead 2 - You will be sore from laughter the next day.

Lots of Disney movies are good tripping also,I watched mary poppins with a GF and that's good.

Well of course you got the Yellow Submarine. Natural Born Killers is pretty damn trippy, so is Altered States and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. The animation at the beginning of the GD movie is amazing, and So Far is pretty good too. There are lot more, they just don't jump to the top of my head right now.

Try Koyaanisqatsi (life out of balance) and Powaqqatsi (life in transformation). Great visuals. There is no plot to follow. The scores are by Philip Glass and if that is not to your liking it is fine to turn the sound down and supply your own sound with the visuals. I know the titles may give you pause but these are truly cool movies.

I don't really know what you mean by trippy...but I really enjoyed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Also Being John Malcovich was a pretty phenomenal movie. I guess I'm thinking of trippy as a movie that is "out there" and makes me think.

I remember watching a movie called "Vampire Circus" once when I was......you know.....it was pretty crazy as I remember. But I don't know if it would be considered "trippy".

That was the great thing about acid--everything is the trippiest. "life" is the trippiest movie when you're dilated to the gills. Watching stucco walls melt was an activity that would occupy me for days (it felt like). I mean, yeah watching Fantasia or whatever would be totally cool, but I could've been watching Full House and thought it was totally cool too.

But I will mention that we specifically went to see the movie Strange Days when it came out and we were flying. That movie was amazing.

Two movies, both of which I've forgotten the name. The first is a Peter Jackson film from the 80's, where aliens come from outter space to eat all humans. During one part, and man falls and splits his head open. he then proceeds to put his brains back in his head, and walks it off. you have to see it

The second is "something something Iron Man". obviously, "something" isnt part of the title, i just forgot the first few words. In short, it's about an asain that slowly turns into a robot. for example (haha, an example) he is in his bathroom one day, and pops a zit. instead of that oily pus coming out, a little bolt falls out.

Scanners, also, for the head explosions.

as far as "tRiPpY" trippy goes, just pay for some videos on MentalFx.

is Bad Taste. Jackson also made Meet The Feebles, a movie
I remember was advertised as "The muppets on acid", good stuff.

Also, Harvard Man, if I remember correctly has a nice
acid-trip, 30 minutes long or so. Don't think I liked the
rest of the movie though.

On enough acid just static is plenty stimulation but in the beginning or end of a trip a movie can be nice. A good "trippy" movie can help your mood or help send the mind off. I tend to prefer warm movies for trips over dark or wierd. For example "The Wall" is very trippy and I love it but why would I want to watch someone else's bad trip while I'm tripping ?
I watched one of the cheech and chong movies tripping and that was so so at best. I've seen others under the influence but was never quite sure what I was watching

Hey Devil,
I noticed the only movie in your long list that was "not recommended" was "Requiem for a Dream", why? That was the one I was going to mention. That movie stuck in my head for a long while after viewing it. I thought is was a great movie on human behavior.

The first time one watches Brazil, they should do so with the sound turned off while blasting 6/10/73 on the stereo... and schrooms! That was just the best cinematic experience ever.

My hope is that Terry Gilliam gets the job of making the planned J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit movie!

That ship may have sailed though, I haven't kept up with it.

Donnie Darko, as others have pointed out, is VERY trippy. Repo Man and The Rainbow Bridge (Hendrix in Hawaii) were fun to watch while on shrooms too. Anything from Monty Python should have you laughing till your stomach hurts.

Good topic! I saw a movie in Germany after a dead show, that was dubbed into German and was totally trippy about some guy who cuts off his own hand and it chases him around. It wasn't until a year later I found out it was Evil Dead 2! Watching it high and in German was totally out of control. Here's some I didn't see mentioned:
