I just saw this guy on JamCam on Comcast on demand, he was in between raq and moe., and he blew me away. I had never heard of him before, and i've never heard anything like him. His runs, hammer ons, pull offs, and knowledge of like a million chords are crazy. Anyone with good recommendations for a cd from this dude?

i saw that exact same thing on my insight on demand thing the other day! That was sweet as hell, im not extremely knowledgeable of keller william's work really, but he kicks some serious ass. I would recommend trying to find "Crazy Fingers" on Bitlord, its a two-disc collection of Keller covering dead songs, its pretty sweet. (and ironically, im pretty sure Crazy Fingers isn't on it")

I just saw him for the first time in February at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo. Sick show. I actually played at the Haunt in Ithaca with a friend's band the night after he played there many years ago. Around 2000ish.

Someone was talking about the Keller Compilation of Dead songs on an old thread. Mississippi Half Step is killer from it. Dont know if it is still seeded anywhere.

Damn, that was more than 2 years ago. Sheesh.

Anyhow, I've seen Keller at least a dozen times. It's either hit or miss with him for people I've found. You're either really into his funky, rhythmic playing, or you think he sucks. I really like him, but I have gotten over his novelty a bit. Sometimes he tends to spend a little too much time looping. But overall I think he's a helluva player. There is a very big frat-boy community that likes, so be prepared for that. I have a bunch of his early shows (before he banned SBD recordings). I really like his Stage double-CD set. That gives a very good representation of his music/style/schtick.

Try and track down the Keller dead covers CD though. It has some great ones in there.

I have only seen him 2 or 3 times but it is well worth it. The dead mix is awesome.
Something about him is infectious. Some of the loops are better than others, but he does that one man band thing and it seems to work for him.

One of the things I love about Keller is that he has a great love and appreciation for the dead. I saw him play in Seattle last month and he covered 3 dead songs during the course of the show.
For a some very cool moments check out when he played at Red Rocks on 7/1/06. He brings bob weir out for his encore and does an acoustic 'The Weight' and 'Dark Hollow.' He also participated in a crazy china cat to I know you rider to close String Cheese's set that night.

ive seen keller many many times. i usually never get turned onto a band the first time i see them, but i was with keller. his stuff with SCI was AMAZING, but still does not compare to any of his loupy jams. you don't even have to like jambands to get into this guy, although, it is a plus.

I know for a fact that every time I've seen him he's thrown in at least 2 dead covers. His Eyes and Black Peter are very cool.

I just saw K-Dubs for the umteenth time two weeks ago, great show. Got my boogy and my Mac on and they played the sabres game on a big ass screen berfore the show. It was the night of the fight with Philly

Keller rocks, 'nuff said. If you haven't seen him, make it a point the next time he's around. You'll appreciate him as much for his GD covers as for his own unique and quirky personality/playing. It's like nothing else that's out there, totally different take/style on things.

My wife and I have known Keller for over 10 years and he's a great guy, fantastic player. We're all from Virginia and I've played music w/ his cousin Stephen on and off for a long time. Can't say I've seen him perform in several years tho, I saw him the most from 99 to about 03. But I really wanna see him w/ the Rhythm Devils! Anyone here seen them live?

Check this out. I had a similar OMG experience when I first saw this and learned that Preston Reed is pretty much the originator of the style.
The guitar is a fan fretted guitar with open tuning. Fanfretted guitars are basically baritone scale length at the low E string and standard at the high E string.

Only saw him sit in with DSO last year in VA, but I've been digging some of the bluegrass (with band) cuts they've been playing on Sirrius' GD channel... cool stuff!
