So myself being a Strat guy, Ive been trying to dig into the various vintage Strats Jerrys owned over the years (aside from Alligator).

Theres the 58, pictured here, which may or may not be the same as the Veneta one. He gave this Strat to David Hidalgo. Notice the F in the Fender decal is cutoff

David Hidalgo plays the same strat in this vid and recalls the story of how Jerry gave it to him

the Veneta Strat doesnt have the cutoff "F" but maybe that happened later

He also had a Rosewood Strat which he played on Blues From the Rainforest with Merl Saunders seen here:

this site (towards the bottom) claims its a 59, though Im not sure how they determined that

Maybe this is the same Strat he played in 1970?

I too have been curious about the sunburst strats. Especially the Veneta one. Somewhere I read that supposedly Bobby has one of them and still uses it onstage from time to time these days. Can anyone confirm?

Jerry's spirit visited me last night in my dreams so I know for a fact that were Jer alive today, he'd be playing a PRS Silver Sky.

That must have been the wrong Jerry...

Might have been Jerry Miller from Moby Grape? Of course, he's still with us, so he might have actually been in your bedroom! Or maybe it was Jerry Stiller. I could see him being the Silver Sky player. SERENITY NOW!

hehehehe

The ‘58 strat that Jerry gave to Hidalgo

the neck of the 58 Strat in the photo is immaculate while the Veneta Strat already had the lacquer dissolved by sweat for at least half the length of the neck

Good point. I also just looked at the wood grains in the body (below the brige) between both guitars and they appear different. So I think we can conclude Jerry had at least two 50s sunburst strats...possibly three if you consider that Alligator may have been a sunburst originally

On the second page in this article from 1976, Jerry mentions he has a few classic Strats from the 50’s…imagine one was the Veneta Strat and another the Hidalgo Strat…unless things changed later.

He also mentions he has a few altered guitars which I take as being Alligator for one of them.

lmao Garcia was adamant about keeping ticket prices low because music should not be gatekept by money, god bless his soul. In this interview, he says the Grateful Dead were supposed to be a low-cost public service. Who knows what he would think of D&C today, which has essentially become a commodity for the bourgeoisie

Jerry was once asked why the Dead don’t do a stage show. He replied that the best show is a bunch of musicians on stage thoroughly enjoying themselves. I think he’s up there shaking a finger at Bobby and Mickey.
