Kinda takes the a lot of the suspense and anticipation and spontaneity out of it when you know what they are going to play, doesn't it?

seems like quite the task to try and replicate that show

It sure would, if that's what they were doing, but they don't "replicate" shows- they play the same songs in the same order they are in in the setlist, not the same notes or performances thereof.

That's a nice myth for them to allow to flourish though, I'm sure it helps attendance.

Wonder why the poster says "infamous." I think that show is excellent. In fact, I spent all of yesterday listening to it a couple times.

DSO's great, but have u noticed the scene around it is way more sketchy then goin to like ratdog. I dont kno y that is but it seems like the ratio of people whacked out of their skull at DSO to Ratdog is like 5:1

When I saw Ratdog, things were pretty calm. A few people (including, interestingly, a DEA agent) were smoking but I wouldn't say they were "out of their skulls". Quiet, friendly, etc. The good responsible people NORML are fighting for.

You've sparked my interest. I'm going to be watching drug use carefully (you know, objectively...) and see how different DSO scene is this Saturday.

sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. when they played last time in lawrence, i actually had a tape of the dead version of that show. after leaving abe & jakes, i put on the tape and the two shows were really similar. of course, not every show is a clone.

The replicate has had it's ups and downs...

Early on I'd see the Bobby do the typical Bobby banter and other shenanigans that were present during the early years when there were technical problems or broken strings.

But mostly these days when I see them they pretty much stick to things like: the ">s", the feel for the song (uptempto, slow, fast, etc), the style of the song (TLEO like a reggae vs. R&B or intro on MAMU), so it's things like that which they focus on...

"Improvisation is a large part of what we do," English said. "We don't do shows note-for-note. Some people think we do. That's not our approach at all. We do a show in the style of that time. We make sure all the harmonies and melodies (are there). But, when it comes time to do the jams, it's us."

That's what I've been trying to tell people for years but they still don't get it, plenty of room for them to insert their own voice in there.

There's lots of rumors about DSO (one goes they only do intrumentals), but they are mostly just rumors.

Also, I am told that this show is a put-on. Not real.

This show is not a put-on. I got the file from their publicist. I thought it was a bit strange that they publicized the show, but Dave told me about it last november.

If you're there - look for the 6'5 300 pounder boogyin in the back near the bar - say hello - name is Sean.

My personal experience...........There wasn't much there. They knew the songs, sure, but when it came to "taking it out for a walk" as Weir once put it, they stayed pretty close to home.
