I Simply have a guitar to amp setup, and was wondering what is the easiest way to connect a loop machine. Do you simply plug the guitar into the loop machine and then the amp, play what you desire, then the loop machine will play back through the amp while I play additional guitar? I'm just wondering how these things work. Also, does a loop machine provide a handful of drum rythms that you can play over? I really need something that does what I am describing. I'm just making sure I understand before I purchase one.

What kind of loop do you mean? Do you mean just a repeating drum beat, or actually playing something on guitar and having it repeat indefinitely?

I use a Digitech JamMan looper pedal.
You can record rhythm guitar with one of the built in drum patterns then solo over that, or you can record a segment of a song from a CD, and solo over that.

i have a boss loop station. all i do is plug into the instrument input, and output to my amp. i hold down the pedal and loop, then release and it plays back. then i can overdub over it with anything like a keyboard mic bass anything

I just got the Boss RC2. Its stompbox size has like 30 drum patterns, 16 minutes of loop time and 11 overdubs. It can quantize the time sigs, so it loops very naturally.
It is FREAKING AMAZING. I love this pedal. I have it at the end of the chain on my board. Its a bit tricky at first, and I certainly dont use all the features, but I am at a point where it is just soooo fun.
I use it live for textured type phrases during spacey jams, and use it to practice solos.

i have this too, i love to use the pedal to adjust drum tempo as i play, best thing to having a real dynamic drummer, however i cant figure out how to change drum beats

Can you change the tempo of a loop that you just made, or just the drum tempo? I know you can do it with a saved loop, but I dont really use that. I kinda improvise little groves and bass lines on the fly to solo over.
I dont think you can change the drum pattern in the middle of a loop. You have to use one of the knobs and I think you be kicked out of the loop mode when you do that. Its a complicated little pedal.

well i usually dont even loop a chord progression so that i can alter the drums, i just keep the rightmost knob on the drum tempo altering setting, you cant change the tempo of loops to the best of my knowledge

you can change the tempo of the loops, but only when written to a channel and saved. But not on the fly
