Whatchall think o Bobs new album?...I downloaded it off Amazon the other day and been driving around listening to it....to my ears quire different than whatever I've heard him play ...altho I'm not real versed on his post and non-GD work....tremolo and twang rather than McCoy Tyner chord stabs....and its probably been a while since he played as many maj7, min7 and 6th chords as he, or his sidemen play...sounds like maybe a move to capture some of the folk/Americana audience who aren't into extended jams on what are these days, nearly 50 year old songs...kind of dark and melancholy and perhaps a little heavy on the reverb, but also nicely 'atmospheric'...

I'm curious about the specific backstory on some of the tunes...and yeah...I read the reviews about the album being a trip back to his days as a ranch hand in Wyoming or whatever, and that they were collaborations with the National and such, but a couple hint at some sort of tale behind them...

My turn to do KP last night and caught myself humming "Gonesville" while scrubbing the pans....

Not doing much for me. Sadly. I wish he'd have collaborated more with Barlow. The lyrics are just too direct. I miss the artist painting a narrative leaving so much to the imagination.

The album seems to be a step away from the GD and related projects....instrumentally, lyrically....It does sound a bit like they set the metronome at 95 bpm and played the whole thing at that tempo...

Alright guys we just got to Gonesville, Only a River and Gallop on the Run. My favs on the new disc. Can we agree to be happy?

It's a definite departure but I like it. It seems like it was done because he just wanted to be in that space.

In the October 20th issue of Rolling Stone, they review Blue Mountain.

Richard Gehr, the author of the review should be ashamed of himself and put his typewriter and pen out to pasture. Twice in the review he refers to Weir as the Dead's bassist!!!!

If you know nothing of the artist, you should not be reviewing their work.

Where is the editing staff? Jann Wenner.....didn't you come of age with Weir?

It's very, very good.

Bue Mountain is a departure but it is a great album. Just saw Weir last night in Nashville, an incredible concert.

It's good . It could've been better. There are some songs that went in the direction I thought he was
gonna go, but it just fell flat for me.He didn't make the album I wanted him to make.

I love it, but then, I love that genre.

Finally listened yesterday.

New age cowboy, don't mean that as a dis.

Thought it would be beefier than it is on the instrumental side but a solid effort.

One little complaint: leaning on the public domain a bit too much with Shennadoah and Katy in the cold cold ground but a small point.

True to many many GD studio albums, heard studio cuts and wasn't impressed then heard cuts of these done live and WOW!

I like the album. The songs are more melodic and story-telling oriented than Bobs chopped-up non-melodic songs with tons of complex cords. This album, nice simple melodic songs. I like it!
