I'm selling my electric guitar and amp right now, and hopefully will have a new rig by my birthday (Jan 24)

Any way, Im gonna have about $250 to shop around for a guitar. I have a couple backups, so i dont need anything TOO fancy or expensive. is there anything in that price range you guys could recommend?

And dont ask "Well, what kind of amp do you have?" because im ampless as of now. But I've narrowed my search down to a couple around town...

But guitar suggestions for around 200-$250?

GO USED!!!!

You can get a much more high quiality guitar used than you can new when theyre priced the same. You can get a guitar worth 500 bucks with some dings that will be good quality, or you can get a guitar built for a beginner that may not last for the same thing.

i recommend a used fender strat or tele, epi les paul, PRS SE, or even a cheap used gibson LP or SG.If you like hollowbodies, epiphone and ibanez make good ones in that range.

If you go new, you dont have many good options outsied an Epi SG or LP, a Squier Strat or Tele, a cheap Ibanez or something along those lines.

My vote is an early eighties ibanez roadstar II
or a peavey superstrat style also early eighties
I have both and they are well worth $250

Ditto on going used; it's really your best option. Look around on ebay, you should be able to find a nice Mexican made Fender strat or tele for $250.00. Maybe a used Epiphone Les Paul if you're lucky.

Yamaha and Ibanez both make quality lower end instruments, as well, so you should look at those too.

In addition to the Ebay route, check http://www.craigslist.com for your locale. Look for killer Used deals that are a short driving distance away so you can set up a 3D meeting and actually try the instrument. That way you can see how it "falls into your hand" and sounds and functions before you buy.

Ibanez has a semi-hollow body out that, in my amateur opinion, is pretty sweet. Humbuckers, easy to play, sweet tone, and fairly easy to find. Under $300.
