Im having one of my guitars refretted (57 RI Strat), which currently has really worn down vintage size frets. Im gonna get slightly bigger frets for sure and the tech has suggested stainless steel. Ive never had a guitar refretted and to my knowledge, have not played a guitar with SS frets before. What do you guys think?

I have the stainless option on my last couple of warmoth strat necks and they are awesome. The string slides so easy on bends and vibratos on the harder steel. Probably much more durable than nickel also. Have not noticed any tone difference either although the vintage purist may disagree.

I've got one guitar with stainless frets. I don't think it has affected tone adversely. The don't seem to wear much at all.

I have only one bass with SS frets that I know of and they're fine by me. Seems like the only people who don't like them are techs, since they're a lot harder to work on, and need work a lot less often. If your tech wants to put them in I'd be 100% in favor!

I had my early 90s Taylor acoustic (I'm original owner) - 810C - re-fretted with stainless steel frets about 4 or 5 years ago. They've been great. Hardly worn. Would recommend.

Alright, I gave the thumbs up on the SS refret to my tech. It cost $100 more but will hopefully save me from future fret issues

Worth it if done right. Polished hot dog ends are a common term and a favorite of mine.

I was tempted to create a new thread, but I'll ask here. re: stainless steel frets, which are often on Tom Anderson guitars... is anyone getting Jerry Tones on a Tom Anderson?

I had them put on my Gibson SJ200 when I wore down the stock frets. I love them. From now on, any fret job I get done, I will pay extra for stainless. You can't wear them out, and they made that big jumbo acoustic ring and shine.
