Anyone here using LED lights (in a housing) powered by a 9v battery?

If so, what are you using and what are the specs?

I do... I use the regular 5mm leds that Small Bear sells... using them straight with the 9v will kill them. I try different resistors, depending on the application, til I get the brightness I want and go from there. Start with something like 68k and work your way either direction. You could, of course use a variable resistor and then read the ohms when you get it right, but I've got a lot of resistors on hand, it's easier just to try a couple I have....

I'm looking to replace 3mm LED which worked with a 9v battery and 5100 (5.1K) resistor (.0018 amps).

I appear to have the right bulb. The issue is that I can't find the correct housing to mount the bulb. I don't think I can get the bulb out of the original housing without destroying it.

Ah... I don't use housings when I mount them in guitars... I just make the hole so that it fits very snugly and press it in. I've used rubber cement on a couple that were just a bit loose. Small Bear has a chrome bezeled 3mm housing, but most of the stuff is for 5mm. I've seen a lot of different housings on ebay too. Is it a black plastic housing?
