Let the wild rumpus start!

The bad: his counterpoint rhythm against the other guitarist was atrocious. Like he wasn't hearing how to lay back and accompany. May be a problem with Weir.
The good: I liked his tone. Hybrid nasally Trey and clean country Jerry. True to both worlds. Thought his solos were very much the same: true to himself and serving the music. To me this is gives hope to great shows

It's neat. I never liked phish, but I thought Trey was having lots of fun, and sounded ok doing it. It just reminds me of how otherworldly and amazing Jerry was though!

My sentiments precisely, especially the latter. Which is, for many of us, going to be the key to whether we can let go enough to enjoy what is. To be what John Steinbeck called the "blown-in-the-glass bum" -

To be honest I never thought Jerrys rhythm playing was that spectacular either, Bobby was always more compelling to me in that department

I had not read that Steinbeck quote. Those words are a constant lesson in all of my adult life.

Trey is using has old guitar that had a single coil in it. I am pretty sure it was the first one Languedoc built for him. In terms of the shows coming up, I think Trey will be awesome. As far as Jerry goes, he wasn't that great and he knew it, that is what made him great. I think that is what makes all great artists, being willing to take risks and perform knowing that a lot of people probably won't like it or may be offended and doing it anyway. I love Jerry and I love Trey the are probably my two favorite guitar players. Trey has definitely grown a lot in the past few years and has really embraced humility in a way that eluded him in the past. People can bitch about guitar payers all day long but I find it a distraction to the obscene money grab that is going on here in terms of tickets etc.

The first Languedoc was the on the back of Lawn boy I thought and it had 2 Gibson style p-ups. I am pretty sure until the new curly Koa guitar he has not even had a coil spilt much less a single coil. I could be wrong though. I have not asked Paul myself.

The original 'Doc (a.k.a "old reliable") was initially a hum-single-hum configuration. At some point, Trey pulled the middle single and filled the spce with a wood block. So he did have a middle single for a while--I'm talking late 80s here.

cool I stand corrected. Actually , some one brought it to my attention that he used it also for part of new years 2013.
