Got this baby in a trade, for my PRS Torero. I must have still been feeling the pain from my last Jerry post about that MIJ parstcaster, because I felt the urge to ditch my MIK PRS.

Anyways, this thing totally surprised me. It's got a SD PAF in the bridge and a high output ceramic pick-up at the neck, and it's got an on board boost, that highlights more mid-range plus this guitar comes stock coil splitting as well as the on board boost. It's not a modern Jerry tone but it's closer to the 78 Jerry tone than any other guitar I have right now and with no mods, and even though I aquired it in a trade the asking price on CL was only about $550 USD.

Ebony fret board, cream binding, mahogany neck cap and body. But it's chambered and I think that's what makes it so bright because it's got a biting high end on the high E string. Really classic look.

They make a sister model with 3 Lollar P90's, and it comes with the same on board boost, and I just saw one in the local guitar store marked down from $1450 to $900. Those pups alone are about $300. Really great value in a Canadian (Quebec) build.And another store also had one they had to unload, because surprise to me, I was told by the store manager that guitar stores have a real problem selling anything with three pick-ups unless it's a stratocaster.

The thing plays great, although the upper frets are a bit tricky to play, because it's got a larger heel (but strong neck joint). It's basically a LP, with some innovations to set it apart, both in looks and in the electronics.

Hopefully I won't offend as many folks as last time by posting here, but it's definitely a Jerry guitar, not a Bobby guitar, and it requires zero modifications, meaning it's something you could pick up, play and unload without taking a bath.

Thought I'd add, I'm definitely a fan of Godin guitars. They fly under most peoples' radar yet are a solid, toneful, versatile, affordable option. Here's what the piezo option on my LGX-SA sounds like (me performing one of my originals, not Dead, if uninterested, skip the video - how easy it that? ).

I played a used Godin Signature Artisan TC in a store last month through a twin. The tone off the neck pickup was outstanding, almost 3D, though the bridge wasn't as enchanting. Walked out, decided I wanted it the next day. Gone.

You can definitely get Jerry tones on a Godin.

Turning out to be a great (and friendly) thread. Love that Bertha, it sounds great and wow sweet sweet lyrical playing (found that video on my own a while back I think) and so does your original Jon! There is something about watching folks play their instruments, that's just so much better than reading about folks playing their instruments.

Here's an interesting youtube video about John Mclaughlin and his love of Godin's. He talks about the midi scripting, and when I really got serious about improvisation I bought the DVD package he's speaking about (which can now be found in its entirety on youtube). I wondered what kind of guitar he was using back then, and I was surprised to stumble on this vid about 6 months ago, because his choice of instrument (and gear for that matter) is fairly pedestrian. Just goes to show you how important playing is, because without the skills, what good is a 10k rig?

James what are you doing for background drums? They track very well and Im looking to do the same

I found a program called Mactubes. It allows me to capture and download YouTube videos. I then drag those files into garage band and capture just the audio.

You tube has all sorts of great drummers putting out thier "live" tracks. Way better than a drum machine or drum loops.


I've found about 3 or 4 drum tracks that are very funky.

I'll tell you this track was a bitch to play to. It took me a good part of an afternoon to lay down a decent rythem track. And if you heard it on its own. It's not that great

They sometimes tell you the BPM on the you tube video. On this one I set up the garage band file first to match the guys tempo and supplemented it with either a shaker loop or tambourine or both.


I was going lay down keys and bass but my band members are just too busy to be bothered with this stuff. I might farm that out in the future to some Internet musicians. I think you can find them pretty cheap and they are all over he planet.

Godin instruments get my vote. My mate's fretless Godin electric bass sounds closer to an upright bass than any electric bass I've ever heard.
