If you had a strat imitation, say a squire or maybe (my pick) an Xaviere and set amount of money to spend on it jack-back (so only on the guitar) what would you do?
Lets set the amounts at $50, $100, $200, and $300. Go for whatever interests you most.
I'll answer first since it's my game. I'd say that for 50 I'd.... maybe go for upgrading the tone pots and cap to no load and a real orange drop (~15). After that I'd go for a 1M volume pot and redo the wiring (~15), then I'd go for shielding the heck out of it with copper tape (~15) and a good 6 inch sub (~5)
For 100 I'd do the tone again (15), shielding (15) again, make a buffer circuit (15), replace the wiring and the volume pot (10), nice new .10 strings (10), and save the rest for pickups.
For 200 I'd go with some new pickups, wait for a good deal on a vintage wound set of pups (150), the buffer again at (15), tone pots (15), sheilding (15) and less nice (5) strings
300, vintage 69 pickups (170), Alembic stratosphere (90), all new wiring and pots and shielding (30), strings (10)
What do yall think? Idk if I'll do much to my new strat fake, I'm in the middle of a pretty versatile guitar build that is my interpretation of the late 70's wolf (despite the fact that my favorite period is by far '69 to '79 for most things) This is my first post on this site although I've read it often; so hello!
