Just saw this article about possibly the only letter Jerry wrote going up for auction:

Some interesting comments there about doing an acoustic tour with John Kahn.

Why do you think it might be the only one he wrote?

Article says it is the first one to surface, and that the letter itself said he hadn't written one in years. Maybe not the only one, but it could be the only surviving one.

I'm more curious about who the hottie was!

"Love-letter" is more a marketing tool than an accurate description from what I saw. In it he says he is responding to postcards from the lady. I find putting this type of thing up for sale to the highest bidder more troubling than putting his guitars up for public auction. This letter wasn't intended for public consumption while the guitar clearly was for one thing.
I didn't see anything titillating, scandalous, or frankly even interesting in what I read...but I did read it (or the 1st couple pages anyway). Perhaps she is down on her luck, though I imagine its closer to kids prep-school tuition is due, property tax time, and I want the new I-phone. Maybe she is having a tough time paying her "mortgages" (plural) which equals broke in some folks minds

Having said that, it might just be my personal thing with Jer. If I think about the same thing with another musician, author, composer, politician, etc. it doesn't seem to bother me nearly as much. Maybe it's a Rorschach test.

I can't say i like this type of thing.. Putting up someones personal life for sale seems a bit chintzy to me... I had this same issues with the Pizza Tapes and the Grateful Dawg movie... as far i can ascertain, he ventured into this letter with as much intent for it to be public as he did those recordings and video footage... I think there is enough of his life out there he didn't mind sharing, but i also think there should be much that is left to his own comforts. Maybe i'm wrong, but its just my opinion
