I've been poking around, and I can't seem to find a reference for the model of envelope filter Bob used with the GD like in this 'Music Never Stopped' circa '91. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas?

Bobby destroyed that version! Ouch!! You can hear a stubborn frustration goin on in his playing. Maybe just totally sick of playing these tunes, but man. That was a downer!

Students for a Democratic Society. It became progressively more radical to the extent that some leaders branched off into bombings etc. in effort to instigate a political revolution...vs. a spiritual or consciousness revolution that others of the era prioritized.

So you are saying Bobby was intentionally playing in an obtuse style to the rest of the band, and with a terrible sounding effect/tone, in order to break out of the Grateful Deads musical status quo?

Pretty good pic showing settings for several pieces of gear.

In the early 80's, I think he front-ended the AF9 with a TS9. In this pic, it looks like the TS9 has been replaced with a Boss pedal, and I'm not sure which comes first. I don't think his single coils could push the AF9 adequately so he needed the boost.

Maxon/Ibanez licensed the circuit from MuTron for the AF-9. It runs on 9V rather then 18V. A friend has a MuTron and I have a Maxon. I've tried them side by side and they are damn close.

Looks like the Boss is after the AF9.

SDS was certainly confrontational but I would say the SDS breakaway, Weather Underground, were advocating for upping the violence quotient.

After Kent State, Jackson State, COINTELPRO, etc.

"Revolution was in the air".
