I dont think it would depreciate the value of the original.

I think it is a great idea for a Cowboy Reissue, unfortunately if they come in at the weight of the previous model, I would take a pass on it. 9 - 10 lb guitars are not in my rotation anymore. Effects of getting older , although i did break out my AR500 last week for 1/2 the first set. I smiled once I got the preamp dialed in...... that bobby "chink" in all its glory..... makes me GAS for a real Cowboy Fancy. I would even go for a reissue of Bobby's original Ibanez professional (with vines).

Bring it in at 8 lbs or less, I would buy one if priced appropriately.

There are many others on this board more informed than I on this topic. So I will cede authority in advance. It doesn't seem to me that Fender Reissue amps have hurt the value of vintage ones.

How many people would be willing to commit (with a deposit) to something like this? I can approach them as a boutique guitar dealer about doing a run of guitars if there were enough solid orders.

If I was building another Cowboy, I'd consider using this guitar as my starting point:

It has an ebony board, Gibraltar bridge w/sustain block, and is lighter than the vintage Artist.

I'm not sure if the pickups would work. They are "Super 80", however, they are not vintage and would need to be tested. Of course, dropping in a vintage pair should be easy.

The AR620 has the vine inlay, however, it doesn't have the Gibraltar bridge or sustain block.
