Scott Walker modified Gibson Firebird (AKA The FireWalker)

Hi Guys,

Although Gibson Firebirds aren't normally associated with The Dead this project is certainly Jerry-inspired. A couple of months ago I bought a new 2014 Firebird body from http://www.stratosphereparts.com. It was completely gutted of electronics and hardware except for the Steinberger tuners, which are actually better than the traditional banjo style tuners Firebirds used to have. I sent the body to Scott and asked for the following mods:

1. Lollar Firebird pickups with custom engraving on the covers.
2. TonePros bridge with Scott's tailpiece.
3. OBEL with front and side jacks.
4. Scott's booster/buffer system with master volume, master tone and gain knobs.
5. Scott's logo on the pickguard.
6. Battery compartment installed.

Scott doesn't normally do mods or repairs but since I'm a return customer he graciously agreed to do the work. Both times I've worked with Scott I've approached him with an image in my head and he has absolutely nailed it. This beauty will ship tomorrow.

So...comments?

Beautiful. There's something about Firebirds.... I had one in the 60's, still miss it. Easy to "flip" for us lefties.

It's on my "to do" list for sure. Unfortunately I'm not very tech savvy when it come to computers and recording but one of these days I'll get around to it. I must say the the Lollar FB pickups are incredible. Not Jerry-like, to be sure, but they are exceptionally expressive. Mojotone recently came out with an excellent Johnny Winter signature FB pickup which you can hear at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69MWJ7ZE-aE.
