I wasn't going to mention it, but since there's now a link to a review on the main page.... We saw the TTB in Syracuse last Tuesday. After the second song I turned to my wife and said "Holy Shit!" We were pretty much blown away. I think it was the first time I've gone to a show without ever hearing a single song by a band- but with this group it was a no-brainer. Outstanding. And it seems strange to say that DT was really just the icing on the cake- the whole band is something else. Double drummers and a three piece horn section- yummm! Having said that, Trucks is just something else.

And let's not forget that Susan Tedeschi (not a slouch on guitar either) was a member of The Other Ones for the 2002 tour. I caught one of those shows- I distinctly remember a growly, nasty Mr. Charlie.

My recollection is the female singer for The Other Ones was Joan Osborne. At least she was for the Western shows. Both are phenomenal!

I thought Tedeshi came out of the Texas blues scene. The timing would be right though, never caught TOO's. I saw Derek Trucks in some dive bar in West Palm Beach in 2000 and he was terrific (I was/am a Duane freak). I was maybe even more impressed by the keyboardist/singer, who really carried the band in many ways at that point. He probably still plays with Trucks but doesn't sing anymore. He had top caliber band members from the start anyhow, makes sense given his geneology. Such a big difference for a soloist, especially if they don't sing.

Joan was there for 2003. Another great voice.

Looking back I now see the closest they came to me was Shoreline. Thanks for the correction T. Never even listened to those shows.

She sure sounds like she did, but she grew up right here in Boston. Her family owns a huge regional chain of convenience/grocery stores.

Heard them for the third time a few weeks ago. Lots of great music coming off that stage.

They've also recently begun to mix up their setlists from night to night, which was my only complaint up til now. I was lucky enough to attend a soundcheck in Madison earlier this year, and while I wasn't able to stay for the whole show, the soundcheck will remain as a rock 'n roll highlight for me, personally, for the rest of my life. A great band, and great people, too, the crew included.

to this here female, any band with at least one female in it becomes way more interesting to me, I get the yawns after a bit watching a bunch of dudes do their thing; I think, too, it affects the crowds differently. While I can appreciate a dirty, nasty jam with the best of 'em, when the crowd gets dirty and nasty it gets unpalatable for women. So what I'm saying is, if you want women at your gigs, keep it women-friendly.

I caught them for the first time live at Red Rocks last summer. They were amazing. It was one magic evening with a thunderstorm and a double rainbow. Derek and Susan are a great combination, but the rest of the band is every bit as good. I just saw that they'll be back this summer with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. I hope I can get tickets.
