Grateful Garcia Gathering July 31-Aug 3

I'm returning again to the Grateful Garcia Gathering http://gratefulgarciagathering.comto perform for the week and emcee the festival. Its in an all new campground venue and the lineup includes Melvin Seals with Terrapin Flyer and a ton of other bands throughout the week. Beautiful campground with a pool hookups, and a river runs through it. Its in Gays Mills, WI, not far from "The Dells" north of Madison. I'll be celebrating my birthday on July 31st, then Jerry's the next day with an awesome group of folks.

Also, I've been wanting to announce this all week! My old pal Boots Jaffee, whom I got to know while he was taking care of my late mentor Merl Saunders on the road, is coming to Nashville the end of July and going to the Grateful Garcia Gathering with me and my son Zach.This is gonna be another fun year at that festival, in a brand new awesome venue, and I'm expecting an awesome road trip as well!

"Boots" Jaffee (you’ve seen him throwing fireballs in the Grateful Dead Movie) did pyrotechnics for the Grateful Dead from 1968-1976. Boots then went on to manage the tours of Merl Saunders over three decades. Boots recalls his time with Grateful Dead, “I had made my triumphant return to the Fillmore East, now as a member of the Dead family, no longer a lowly stagehand. I was on stage with Jerry discussing logistics for the pyrotechnics when a guy from the light show came over to make his sales pitch saying, "How would the band like our lightshow to go on the road with you guys?" Jerry looked at him over the top of his glasses and said, "We don't need a lightshow, we have Boots, and he’s 3 Dimensional".
Boots Jaffee been an integrated part of the San Francisco music scene since it’s early days. In fact, when Janis Joplin died, Boots inherited her Great Pyrenees dog. Boots, with this trademark 11.5-foot long ponytail wrapped in colorful ribbon, is also a monster harmonica player, having performed with Rat Dog, Merl Saunders, David Grisman, Leftover Salmon, Dark Star Orchestra, Warren Haynes, George Clinton & P-Funk, the late great, Odetta, Galactic, Ecoustic Hookah, Michael Franti, Robert Randolph, Pete Seeger, Steve Earle, and more. Grateful Garcia Gathering is thrilled to announce he’ll be coming to the festival this year with our Emcee Mike Lawson to blow some harp with Mike, help Emcee, and play with our other great performers at the show.
